For people living with HIV, aging process can be challenging. Beside facing the risk of age-related diseases as those of the general elderly population, getting older with HIV infection can lead to other health problems. Despite the use of long-term antiretroviral (ARV) treatment that can control the viral load, chronic inflammation may still occur. Consequently, the risk of neurocognitive impairment, mental problems, such as depression, and frailty is increasing.
Considering the complexity of multifaceted issues around people with HIV at a later age, the University Centre of Excellence, AIDS Research Centre, Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia, will hold a Scientific Discussion Forum titled “Promoting Healthy Aging for People Living with HIV”. This event will facilitate discussions about health challenges faced by people living with HIV at a later age, and how to support them to achieve a healthy aging.
