Prison rehabilitation staff currently lack formal capacity building while running social rehabilitation programs. To address this gap, the AIDS Research Center of Atma Jaya Catholic University developed a simple capacity-building model. This model aims to optimize social rehabilitation programs specifically within correctional settings.

What is Implementation Research?

The model was created using an “implementation study,” a method that evaluates how a specific policy works in reality. Instead of just measuring success or failure, this research explores how and why a program succeeds or struggles. In practice, it analyzes everything from the operational process to the underlying success factors and final results. Ultimately, the main goal of implementation research is to test a health intervention in the real world and use the findings to improve it for the future.

Study Objectives

At the operational level, the study had two main goals:

  • For prison staff: To measure how much the capacity-building model improves the knowledge and skills of prison staff managing drug dependency rehabilitation.
  • For residents: To evaluate how participating in this social rehabilitation program impacts the overall quality of life for the inmates.
